A full-page illustration of Hot Springs, Arkansas — the famous thermal spa resort that had become one of the most celebrated healing destinations in post-Civil War America. The Hot Springs Reservation (predecessor to Hot Springs National Park, established 1921) had been set aside by Congress in 1832, and the resort's famous bathhouses and thermal waters drew visitors from across the country. Arkansas had rejoined the Union a decade earlier in 1868, and Hot Springs stood as a symbol of the South's postwar revival and growing appeal to Northern tourists. A vivid and significant piece of Arkansas history and American resort culture.

This is not a battle scene but a portrait — a human document of the real soldiers who defended Plevna through five months of siege. Their individual faces, weapons, and dress capture the diverse composition of Osman Pasha's defending force. An extraordinary and very frameable piece of human documentary illustration from the Russo-Turkish War.

Two large panoramic illustrations of the Ottoman assault on the Shipka Pass — the vital mountain crossing in Bulgaria contested through the summer and autumn of 1877. The upper view shows dense columns of Ottoman infantry advancing up a forested ridge through cannon smoke and artillery explosions; the lower view depicts a second wave of the assault across the valley, the mountainous terrain clearly rendered. Suleiman Pasha made multiple costly attempts to recapture the pass from Russian and Bulgarian defenders, and these two panoramic views capture the scale and violence of those assaults. A significant and dramatic pair of Russo-Turkish War illustrations.
