A vivid and significant piece of New Jersey agricultural history and American working life. ⚔️ TWO-THIRDS DOUBLE-PAGE CENTERFOLD — "THE BATTLE OF KIZIL-TEPE, IN ARMENIA" A two-thirds double-page centerfold of the Battle of Kizil-Tepe, fought June 25, 1877 near Kars in the Armenian highlands — an Ottoman victory in which Mukhtar Pasha's forces, vastly superior in numbers, successfully drove off the Russian attempt to besiege Kars. Published at a time when the Caucasus front of the Russo-Turkish War was receiving far less attention in the American press than the more famous Danube campaign, this centerfold is a significant piece of Armenian and Caucasus military history. ⛵ TWO-THIRDS PAGE — "TRAFALGAR — THE SINKING OF THE 'REDOUTABLE'" A two-thirds page illustration of the sinking of the Redoutable — the French 74-gun ship of the line whose crew killed Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson during the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805. A marksman in the Redoutable's mizzenmast fired the musket ball that struck Nelson at the moment of his greatest victory. Redoutable had fought with extraordinary ferocity — losing 522 of her 643 crew killed or wounded — before being overwhelmed. She sank in the storm that followed the battle. This illustration captures that sinking, a moment that encapsulates the dual nature of Trafalgar as both a defining British triumph and a devastating human tragedy.
