π’ FULL PAGE β "SCENE ON A MISSISSIPPI RIVER STEAMER" β FEATURING MANY BLACK FIGURES
A full-page illustration of life aboard a Mississippi River steamboat β prominently featuring many Black figures β published during the opening phase of Congressional Reconstruction, when the Mississippi River and its steamboat economy remained a central artery of Southern commerce and Black American labor. The steamboat decks, engine rooms, and docks of the Mississippi were among the most significant workplaces in Black American life in the post-emancipation South, and this illustration is a vivid primary document of that world. A significant and displayable piece of Black Americana and Southern river history.

π FULL FRONT PAGE β "THE DISTRICT SCHOOL TEACHER"
A full front-page illustration of a district school teacher β a vivid and warm piece of American educational and social history, capturing the one-room schoolhouse tradition that educated generations of Americans in the rural and frontier United States.
ποΈ HALF PAGE β "LAYING THE CORNERSTONE OF THE NEW CITY HALL AT BALTIMORE"
A half-page illustration of the cornerstone ceremony for Baltimore's new City Hall β a significant piece of Baltimore civic and architectural history. Baltimore City Hall, built between 1867 and 1875, still stands today as one of the finest examples of American Victorian civic architecture.
π QUARTER PAGE β "LEHIGH UNIVERSITY, SOUTH BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA"
A quarter-page illustration of Lehigh University at South Bethlehem β published just one year after the university opened its doors in September 1866, in what was then one of the most significant educational investments in American history. Asa Packer, founder of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, had donated $500,000 and 115 acres of land in 1865 to establish Lehigh β the largest educational gift in U.S. history at the time. Designed to produce engineers and industrial leaders for the rapidly expanding American economy, Lehigh was founded just as Bethlehem Steel was beginning its rise to become one of the world's great industrial empires. This illustration captures the infant university at the beginning of its history. A significant piece of American educational and industrial history.
