ποΈ HALF PAGE β "SAMUEL TILDEN, GOVERNOR-ELECT OF NEW YORK"
A portrait print of Samuel Tilden, freshly elected Governor of New York on the Democratic wave of the 1874 midterms. Tilden would go on to win the popular vote in the 1876 presidential election β only to lose the White House in the most disputed election in American history, the Compromise of 1877 that effectively ended Reconstruction. A significant piece of American political history, capturing Tilden at the moment his national rise began.
