๐ฆฌ THREE-QUARTER PAGE โ BUFFALO HUNTING
A three-quarter page illustration of buffalo hunting on the Great Plains โ published as the great buffalo herds were in the final stages of their catastrophic decimation. By 1877 the southern herd had already been effectively destroyed and the northern herd was under severe pressure. A significant piece of Western Americana and American environmental history.
๐ช QUARTER PAGE โ "GENERAL NELSON MILES"
A quarter-page portrait of General Nelson Miles โ the aggressive young officer then leading winter campaigns against Native American tribes on the northern Plains, fresh from his role in the Great Sioux War following the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Miles would go on to capture Geronimo and become the Army's Commanding General.
โ๏ธ FULL PAGE โ THOMAS NAST POLITICAL CARTOON
A second full-page Nast cartoon โ two Nast pieces in one issue, a strong double helping of Gilded Age political commentary.
๐ HALF PAGE โ "HELPING THE POOR โ SCENE ON CHERRY STREET"
A half-page illustration of charity work on Cherry Street in lower Manhattan โ one of New York's most impoverished neighborhoods in the Gilded Age. A significant piece of New York social history and urban documentary illustration.

๐ฎ DOUBLE-PAGE โ "FORTUNE-TELLING IN THE BAVARIAN TYROL" (from a painting by H. Rรผsemann)
Two richly atmospheric interior scenes from a painting by H. Rรผsemann โ rendered with the warm, lamp-lit intimacy of the finest German genre painting tradition. The upper scene shows a cloaked woman having her fortune told, the reader with cards or papers before them; the lower scene depicts a close, intimate fortune-telling in a lamp-lit interior, figures bent intently together. A beautiful and very frameable piece of Victorian Germanic genre art.
๐ฅ FULL PAGE โ HIGHLAND/RURAL GATHERING SCENE
